Wolfson Hillel School

Wolfson Hillel SchoolWolfson Hillel was founded in 1992 as a United Synagogue School and we are justifiably proud of our school's achievements both in National Curriculum subjects and in Jewish Studies. Our pupils' results in external examinations are consistently high and we received an excellent OFSTED report in 1998. The simultaneous inspection of our Jewish Studies department (PIKUACH) was also highly complimentary. Nevertheless we are constantly striving to improve the education we give to all our pupils. The new IT facility is just one concrete example of this.

This site includes a lot of information for prospective parents but nothing can be better than seeing the school in action. So if you are thinking about Wolfson Hillel for your child phone the school office (020 8882 6487) and we will be delighted to make an appointment for you to visit.

Take a look at the website at www.wolfsonhillel.enfiel.sch.uk where you can find out more about the school. As you will see most of the material has been prepared by our pupils using our dedicated IT facility which was completed in late 1999. At Wolfson Hillel we appreciate the growing importance of technology to society. The building of our IT facility should help us provide all our pupils with a good introduction to computing and the internet so that they can build on these key skills at secondary school.

Wolfson Hillel Primary School welcome parents and children to our warm, happy and supportive School in Southgate originally opened in 1992 to encourage and stimulate all children to fulfill their individual potential imbued within a love and understanding of Torah and Israel.

Wolfson Hillel is a two form entry voluntary aided Jewish nursery and primary school with a maximum pupil roll of 470 whose ethos is to respond to the 'whole child' spiritually, emotionally, physically and socially as well as intellectually.

We aim to provide a safe, secure and happy environment in which our pupils will flourish combining Jewish values, practices and beliefs, alongside the National Curriculum which test results show our continued academic success and the recent Ofsted Report underlines the effectiveness of our approach.

Our curriculum concentrates on the skills young people will need in the twenty-firstcentury-linguistic, mathematical, scientific and technological encompassing our newly built state of the art IT facility, whilst providing opportunities for children to develop through the expressive arts in music, art and drama. There are also a host of lunchtime and after school activities to extend and enrich their lives.

Information about the School

Parental responsibilities

  • Wolfson Hillel is a United Synagogue school and parents are expected to support the aims, values and Jewish ethos of the school.

  • As an orthodox school parents should dress appropriately while on the school premises and men are requested to cover their heads.

  • Although we are a state school there is no state funding for Limmudei Kodesh (Jewish Studies) which is provided in addition to the National Curriculum. The cost of this provision is met by termly voluntary contributions from parents. Details of the current suggested contribution levels are available from the school office. You will be asked to donate by Gift Aid if you are a tax payer so that the school can benefit from a tax refund at no additional cost to you. This extra valuable source of income is used to defray part of the cost of Jewish Studies provision.

  • The School Governors require a high level of security around the school and this is provided by parents. All parents are expected to participate in the security rota alongside a member of a specially trained team.

Attendance and uniform

  • Children are expected to attend on every school day, unless they are unwell or need to attend a medical or other important appointment. Parents must inform the school in writing in advance where possible or, in the case of illness, immediately after their child has returned to school. Any absence not accounted for in this way will be treated as unauthorised and is entered as such on the child’s attendance record.

  • Parents are entitled to take children on holidays not exceeding ten days in school time provided prior permission is requested and granted. Our normal authorised absence rate is 5% of possible attendance and unauthorised absences 0%.

  • School begins at 8.45am. Children should be in the playground by that time.
